Dr. McGuire - Services Provided:
Dr. McGuire provides comprehensive specialized care for people with thoracic disease, including:
RAPID ACCESS THORACIC CANCER CLINICS: for lesions in the lungs, trachea, esophagus, stomach, mediastinum, chest wall, pericardium, and pleural space suspicious for cancer
Esophageal pH/impedance & Manometry testing
Benign foregut disease including: giant hiatus hernia, achalasia and esophageal motility disorders, benign esophageal tumours and cysts
Surgical lung biopsy
Surgical biopsy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) biopsy of mediastinal lymphadenopathy
Congenital anomalies of the tracheobronchial tree, lung, and esophagus in the adult
Chest injury repair
Acquired benign conditions such as myasthenia gravis, hyperparathyroidism due to mediastinal parathyroid adenoma, and sepsis in the pleural space, mediastinum, chest wall and lungs
Proximal airway disease, such as benign tracheal stenosis
Benign esophageal diseases requiring esophageal function assessment
Emphysema requiring lung volume reduction operation

Taking Care of You
The initial appointment with Dr McGuire is about 30 minutes in length and for consultation only.
No procedures will be done at this visit.
Dr. McGuire will review your history, completed investigations, conduct an appropriate examination, and discuss your management plan.
Patients must bring a list of current medications, and an adult English language translator if not fluent in English.

Helping You Get Healthy
All of Dr. McGuire's thoracic surgeries and thoracic procedures are conducted at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).
In the operating room, fellowship trained cardiothoracic anesthesiologists conduct your thoracic surgical anesthesia. Prior to surgery Dr McGuire's office will arrange an assessment in the VGH pre-anesthetic clinic.

The Care You Deserve
After surgery, all of Dr. McGuire's patients recover on the 12th floor Chest Centre at VGH in the Jim Pattison Pavilion. A highly specialized multidisciplinary "Tower-12 Chest Centre" team of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, and Pharmacists, help care for Dr. McGuire's thoracic patients while in hospital.
